Ganesha, also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, and Pillaiyar, is one of the most well-known and revered deities in the Hindu pantheon. His image is found throughout India. Hindu denominations worship him, regardless of their many sects. Devotion to Ganesha is widespread and extends to Buddhists and other Asian religions.
Although Ganesha has many different features, he is easily identified by his elephant head. He is widely revered as the remover of obstacles and harbinger of good luck. He is the patron of the arts and sciences, and the god of intellect and wisdom. His cult and popularity were so powerful that he was even present in Pakistan and Afghanistan before Islam considered him heretical. However, he has survived beyond the borders of Hinduism in various forms, consecrated and adapted to local cultures around the world.
