Description

Niccolò Machiavelli, born in Florence in 1469, is remembered as one of the greatest political thinkers in history. His most famous work, "The Prince", written in 1513, revolutionized Renaissance politics with its pragmatic and often controversial perspective on power. Machiavelli believed that political success relied not on traditional morality but on the effectiveness of a leader’s actions, leading to the famous interpretation that "the ends justify the means."

Although often regarded as a cynical or amoral author, Machiavelli was a passionate patriot who longed for a strong and unified Italy. His experience as a diplomat exposed him to the harsh realities of European politics, shaping his understanding that a leader must be both cunning and fierce, combining the qualities of a fox and a lion, to maintain control and protect the state.

In addition to "The Prince", Machiavelli wrote other works, such as "Discourses on the First Decade of Titus Livy", where he explored ideas about republics and stable governments. However, it was "The Prince" that immortalized him, cementing his relevance in the study of political realism to this day.
